Banks County High School Geometry Classes Dive into Ocean Conservation

Last week, Mrs. Brittany Brown's Geometry classes at Banks County High School participated in an exciting lesson integrating Geometry and ocean conservation.

Earlier this year, Mrs. Brown applied for an opportunity to receive free 4Ocean bracelets for her students, and she was thrilled to learn a month ago that her application was accepted!

During last week's classes, Mrs. Brown emphasized the importance of ocean conservation and creatively connected it to Geometry standards. Students explored the impact of single-use plastics on our oceans and learned how they pollute many parts of the world. To tie this important issue to their Geometry lessons, students examined the tracked path of Belle, an endangered Green Sea Turtle. They identified and named points, lines, segments, and other geometric concepts using Belle's journey.

As a special treat at the end of the lesson, each student received a 4Ocean bracelet, valued at about $20, made from recycled plastic, glass, and stainless steel.

Mrs. Brown hopes that this experience "not only deepened the students' understanding of Geometry but also instilled in them the importance of protecting, preserving, and conserving our oceans," she stated.  I think I was more excited than my students", added Brown.
