Banks County Schools Honor Veterans

Banks County Schools proudly celebrated Veterans Day with programs at Banks County Elementary School and Banks County Middle School, honoring the service and sacrifice of our community's veterans. Students showcased their patriotism through songs and band performances, led by Banks County High School Band Director James Geiger and Banks County Middle School Director Marcus Shockley. Banks County Elementary School's Music Teacher, Clarissa Duncan, led students in a stellar patriotic performance.

The system celebrated over fifty veterans at both the elementary and middle school ceremonies.

At Banks County Middle School, SGT Mullins—an alumnus of Banks County Schools and a beloved teacher at BCMS—served as the guest speaker. SGT Mullins is a United States Army veteran who served four years on active duty at Fort Benning, Georgia. During her service as a veterinary technician, she supported the military working dog program in critical ways that helped protect service members and communities.

In her inspirational speech, SGT Mullins reflected on the discipline, teamwork, and resilience that military life fosters. She spoke of the sacrifices made by service members, as well as the daily sacrifices of the families who support them. She credited her family's consistent encouragement, particularly her grandmother's constant push to "become better," as a source of strength throughout her journey. SGT Mullins continues to serve our nation in the Army Reserve while inspiring her students in the classroom each day.

Banks County Schools wishes to thank all of our veterans who continually show our students what it means to live with honor and purpose. Each year, the system honors our veterans. If you are a veteran or would like to nominate a veteran for a future presentation, please contact us at 706-677-2224.
