The Georgia Farm to School Award recognizes school systems that demonstrate a commitment to purchasing locally grown foods, maintaining school gardens, promoting agricultural education, incorporating farm-to-school activities into the school environment, and supporting farm-to-school initiatives through district policies and procedures.
School Food and Nutrition Director Nicole Blalock credits the district's continued success to a systemwide effort and the strong support of the local agricultural community.
Blalock emphasized that this recognition would not be possible without the dedication of the gardening programs at each school, the strong support of our local agricultural community, and the local growers who help provide fresh, homegrown products for students. She also praised the hard work of cafeteria employees at every school, whose commitment extends beyond preparing meals to creating experiences that connect students with agriculture and nutrition.
Earning this award for three consecutive years reflects the collaboration among school nutrition employees, teachers, administrators, students, local farmers, and community partners.
Congratulations to Nicole Blalock and the entire Banks County Schools Food and Nutrition team on this outstanding achievement!
